Dance salsa appeared between the 60’s and 70’s in New York, in the Latin Quarter. On the genres of Cuban music, Puerto Rican, Cuban and American musicians made transformations, adding things from Boricua folklore and jazz and so this musical genre emerged.
Within salsa there are two styles of dance:
Cuban salsa classes, also known as casino salsa. It is easier to dance because of itsfree style without orientation of the dancers. This type of salsa can also be danced as rueda cubana or rueda casino and is danced in groups of couples forming a circle and frequently changing partners.
The line salsa classes, also called Los Angeles style, is danced on an imaginary straight line in back and forth movements where he and she interchange positions executing more complex figures than the Cuban salsa.
